Digital X-Rays

ABOUT DIGITAL X-RAYS

Digital X-rays allow us to take precise images of your mouth without the radiation present in traditional x-rays.

Digital x-rays are quite safe and provide the dentist with accurate imaging in order to properly detect, diagnose and treat oral and dental health conditiosn which may be present. Digital x-rays also help Dr. Gordon more accurately monitor the progress of dental problems or treatments. Regular X-rays are especially important for young children because they help monitor the growth of new teeth and recognize problems such as permanent teeth growing behind baby teeth.

SAFETY OF DIGITAL X-RAYS

Some patients are concerned about the safety of dental X-rays because they require radiation exposure. However, the American Dental Association’s Division of Science says that, according to the American Nuclear Society, the amount of radiation exposure experienced in dental X-rays equates to about .15% of the average person’s exposure per year from background radiation sources in our environment.

At Hygge Laser Dentistry, we employ a strategy called As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) to minimize the time and amount of your radiation exposure in all imaging procedures. In addition to low radiation levels, the lead vest used in the procedure is a layer of protection for your vital organs against unnecessary exposure. Thus, dental X-rays are considered safe for any age, even for pregnant women, with proper use of lead and protective coverings.

FREQUENCY OF X-RAYS

We recommend routine dental x-rays once a year for most patients. However, more frequent imaging may be recommended if Dr. Gordon needs to monitor the progression of a dental problem, treatment, or growth of teeth.

Intraoral Cameras

ABOUT INTRAORAL IMAGING

Intraoral (inside-the-mouth) imaging is used to obtain a closer view of particular parts of the mouth. The bitewing view captures the crowns of posterior teeth, while periapical views show the roots of the teeth and help determine pain sources.

Occlusal views allow Dr. Gordon to see the deeper bone structures in the floor or roof of the mouth. All of these views can be used to determine sources of pain, reveal early-stage cavities in places that are more difficult to see without imaging and identify orthodontic problems at their beginning to minimize treatment length and invasiveness.

BENEFITS OF INTRAORAL IMAGES

  1. Earlier Detection of Oral Problems - Intraoral cameras can save time and money by catching early signs of dental issues like periodontal disease and tooth decay.

  2. Higher Quality images - Higher quality images allow for a more accurate diagnosis and better treatment.

  3. Enhanced progress monitoring—The dentist can use these images to monitor their patients' dental health better. They can carefully monitor the success of previous procedures and make plans for future dental care.

  4. Easier communication—Because the photos are more accurate and accessible, dentists, patients, and other health and insurance professionals can more easily communicate and discuss oral issues.

CBCT 3D Imaging

ABOUT 3D IMAGING

3-D imaging has become more prevalent in many areas of healthcare, including dentistry. As opposed to traditional X-rays, 3-D X-rays can provide a fuller and more detailed view of the mouth and the factors affecting a patient’s oral health.

At Hygge Laser Dentistry, we use Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) to scan your mouth and create 3D images of the teeth, jaw and surrounding structures. CBCT images provide more complete information than a traditional X-ray for Dr. Gordon as she creates patient treatment plans.

Hygge Laser Dentistry in Seattle, WA, utilizes advanced 3-D imaging to ensure you receive the highest quality dental care.

PROCESS OF 3D IMAGING

The process of 3-D imaging is typically quicker than that of traditional X-rays. Before the X-ray, a technician will ask you to sit with your chin on a chin rest, which prevents movement during the imaging process. A machine called a cone-beam computed tomography system (CBCT) will rotate around your head on a mechanical arm and take 100 to 600 images of your mouth over a few seconds.

WHO NEEDS 3D DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING

Patients who plan to receive dental implants, extractions, TMJ treatment, oral surgery, or root canal treatment typically undergo 3-D imaging for Dr. Gordon to create the custom treatment plan. Additionally, our Seattle dentist can use 3-D images to diagnose facial or teeth pain.

Our 3D Imaging service utilizes cutting-edge technology to provide our patients with the most accurate diagnoses and treatment planning. An added benefit is that it exposes the patient to less radiation than traditional X-rays. With our digital X-rays and advanced imaging software, we can ensure that our patients receive the highest-quality care.
