Crowns
A full dental crown, or traditional crown, is one that’s designed to mimic the entire top portion of your tooth. The restoration is bonded in place over your tooth, stopping any damage from growing worse while also restoring the tooth’s ability to support your bite function. Crowns are also used to support dental bridges.
Dental crowns have been one of dentistry’s longest-standing restorative treatments for good reason. While dental crowns have undergone several iterations over the centuries, their design and main function haven’t changed much. Generally, a dental crown’s purpose is to cap a tooth that’s been damaged or compromised, to protect, restore, and preserve it.
Inlays
An inlay is fabricated for a tooth when traditional filling materials are not suitable to restore the tooth. Inlays fill loops in the inner groove of the tooth and do not extend to the outer edge.
Onlays
Like inlays, an onlay is fabricated for a tooth when traditional filling materials are not suitable to restore the tooth. Onlays replace lost tooth structure due to cavities of damage on the outer boundary of the tooth, or on part or all of the biting surface.
